Ethnocentrism and Globalism

Every ethnic group is ethnocentric except for, as a sub-group, white liberals who are both the product and the cause of civilisational decay and whose spiritual nihilism has given them a racial death wish which they disguise to themselves as concern for the other but which is actually founded on a kind of self-hatred whether that be real or something they have been propagandised into believing because of their tendency to prefer abstract theory over reality. Certainly, we are called to self-transcendence as in uplifting our centre of focus from self to God, but this is totally different to the virtue-signalling self-rejection of the white liberal. And note that these people only ever reject their self as their kind not their actual personal self.

History tells us that ethnocentrism can be taken too far but still without an initial love of self there can be no love for anything else because self is where you come from. This is why we are told to love our neighbour as ourself. It is why, as the saying has it, charity (the original meaning of which is love) begins at home.

Ethnocentrism, as least that of white people, is tarnished as racism but what is racism really? Is it racial prejudice or is it the recognition that the different races do indeed differ and in quite significant ways, not just in trivial things like skin colour? It seems that two different attitudes have been confused and lumped together. What is now called racism was never a sin until it was made such by communists in order to weaken the natural instincts of self-preservation of Western nations, making them submit to their replacement by other groups. This was so countries could no longer resist the forces of globalism which would override national identities and concerns and make all groups subordinate to central control. This is why the sense of history is being deliberately lost, the past rewritten to reflect the prejudices of the present and groups which might counter the new narrative with a more spiritually literate understanding attacked or just ignored.

We live in a world of mass immigration, feminism, destruction of family, egalitarianism, climate change propaganda, transgender ideology and the fomenting of war. All brought about to separate Man from God and replace the natural order with Dis-order. The one thing that might stand against this is a Christianity rooted in the supernatural which is why that is attacked or remade into a branch of secular humanism. Know that we are in a spiritual war of good versus evil, and any form of spirituality which doesn't acknowledge this is deluded and just a diversion for dilettantes. Many people go along with the evil to gain money and worldly success as that is what you must do if you want those things. But others who may not actively go along with it can't be bothered to stand against it because they are not sufficiently incentivised to do so as they don't really care. But if you don't care about evil you are a part of it and that means that when it falls, which it will, you will fall with it. To avoid falling you must actively identify it and stand against it both in your mind and in terms of your relationship with the world. It can be hard to resist the relentless propaganda but that is what you must do without falling into the error of allowing evil to drag you down to its level by your opposition to it. Focus at all times on a love of God and the true good and know that evil can never win the war though it may gain many victories in the short term.

Ethnocentrism is attacked because it stands against globalism but also because it is natural. In today's world to be natural is a sin because demonic powers are trying to remake us in a form that has separated itself from its Maker and no longer obeys his laws but has replaced them with others, false laws, spiritually perverse laws. The reason the white race is the primary focus of this attack is because once that falls everything else will follow. Those foolish people who rejoice in the discomfiture of the white nations because of resentment of their past leadership will find that once natural order is removed there will be no barriers to chaos and oppression.

Be Free

It's time to subject the old liberal belief that there can be good people on both sides of an argument to a serious reassessment. Perhaps it was true at one time when truth and lies were not as widely separated as they have become. It's not true now. Increasingly there is truth and there are lies and if you follow the latter it is because something has gone wrong within you. Your roots have become twisted. You don't follow lies if you are a righteous person. I don't say a good person because "there is none good but one, that is, God" (Mark 10:18), but a righteous person leans towards truth and goodness and wishes to accommodate his soul to those things. A righteous person chooses righteously.

Reasonable people want to argue and discuss reasonably, respecting the position of their opponent. I don't respect the opinion of anyone who denies the truth of God. I don't respect anyone who is on board with the corruption of morals as in the sexual revolution and elsewhere. I don't respect anyone who is happy with the degradation of art since the First World War (before then art, generally speaking, elevated, after then, generally speaking, it debased). I don't respect anyone who idolises materialistic science and seeks to deform the human being through technology. I don't respect religious people who compartmentalise their religion and don't let it rule every aspect of their lives. I could go on but the point is made. I don't respect those who, willingly or through intellectual laziness or spiritual shallowness, allow evil to manifest in the world. Yes, evil is subtle and deceptive but it's not that clever. It can only deceive those who allow themselves to be deceived because they have fallen away from goodness and truth.

This is a time of separation of good and evil. Either you are happy with a world in which a small elite controls everything and everyone or else you fight back against the fear and refuse to follow the diktats that would control you. Make the effort to see that the pecks don't really work and that they are here to stay if we let that happen. In themselves they are likely to be but a precursor to something much more serious, perhaps implants of some sort so that you can be numbered and counted and everything about you known and controlled at all times. Understand that covering your face with a cloth is of no earthly use against something as small as that which it is supposed to exclude. The practise is intended to dehumanise and control. You are not being an egotistical fanatic to recognise this. You are standing up for the truth of your being as a free son or daughter of God. It is not just your right. It is your duty.

We are being herded into pens and once there we will find it hard to get out. Much better not to get in in the first place. Are you going to meekly obey either because of fear or because you have allowed yourself to be tricked into thinking that it is the socially acceptable thing to do? It may be socially acceptable in a world of lies but it is spiritually irresponsible. Or are you going to do your duty to God and your fellow man and stand up for freedom?

Domestic Terrorism

I don't write much about current events because they don't interest me in themselves, only in how they reflect spiritual gain or, more likely and almost always these days, spiritual loss. But I should say a word about what is going on now because it is so extreme. Briefly, almost every government in every country of the world is engaged in practising psychological terrorism on its peoples. And not only the governments but the whole establishment, the media, academia, the whole lot of them.

We are lied to every day. We are bullied and threatened until most of us are completely cowed. I don't doubt this has been going on a long time but it has really grown wings and flown recently. What was occasional has become habitual. Politicians don't even know any longer how to speak the truth. They don't even try to communicate honestly. They just aim to manipulate, and the media is the same. Don't think its representatives are any better.

We fuss so much about religious terrorism (only one religion if truth be told) and that is the reason for so much wringing of hands over Afghanistan, a country that would be best left alone as history clearly tells us. And then we fuss over domestic terrorism, the result of importing so many young men who either won't or can't adapt to our admittedly rotten culture. But the real domestic terrorism of the last 18 months has been from our own governments and establishment. Most of them certainly won't see it like that but those for whom they ultimately work know it for what it is and we too should recognise what it is, where it comes from and where it wants to take us.

Here's the thing. These people can't win unless you accept their authority over you. And they have no authority over you. The only one who has authority over you is God and he lets you make your own choices. You have to accept the consequences of those choices but you are given chance after chance to get it right. So, make the right choice. Reject the world and turn to God in whom is all goodness and truth. By the way, the division of the ways is becoming ever more clear and that is the positive aspect of the times in which we live.

Argument and Debate are now a Waste of Time

I no longer have any interest in discussing anything to do with the world with people who are not at least open to the fact that we are in the midst of a spiritual war and that the battle is over souls. I am not interested in looking at political or cultural factors. There may well be such but they are only symptoms of the underlying spiritual malaise and to address them without addressing that is a distraction and a waste of time. It is obvious that socialism only arises when a civilisation enters its decadent phase. It is obvious that art and culture have been working against real truth and beauty for well over a century. It is obvious that most science follows the funding. It is obvious that feminism is destructive to higher values and a healthy relationship between men and women. It is obvious that when, as egalitarian ideology does, you prioritise quantity over quality, culture collapses. If you don't see these things by now you are wilfully blind. There is no point in arguing about such matters.

For a long time I tried to speak to people about spiritual things from within the context of worldly things by which I mean while not overtly rejecting all progressive secular doctrine or else by trying to find some justification for it in that the past was clearly far from perfect and injustices needed addressing. I tried to build a bridge between the spiritual and the secular when I spoke to anyone who might be interested in what I thought (which was not many people!). I started off not doing this but was called extreme and intolerant in my attitude which perhaps I was. So I moderated my words so as not to frighten the horses and tried to fit the spiritual talk into something of a modernist ethos though always with the spiritual as over-riding everything. But that was a mistake. You cannot compromise with the world. If you do, you just dilute the spiritual and it ends up as subordinate to the secular. So you must reject the secular in toto. That is more apparent than ever now when the results of compromise are clearly to be seen. Officially, the spiritual is dead and gone. It exists as a museum artefact of no real relevance, something that some people still pay a token tribute to but which signifies nothing really meaningful to them.

The situation is now so far gone that we cannot compromise with the world in any way. The world has become evil and those who don't recognise that and don't separate themselves from it will be dragged down with it. Nice, decent, kind people will be dragged down if they don't wake up to the truth. Their niceness, their decency, their kindness will then be known for what they are which is spiritual evasion and irresponsibility. Spiritual cowardice, in fact.

It's time to see things for what they are. Yes, we have come to the dying phases of Western civilisation. The traditional pattern has been followed in which people have struggled to create something and then what they have created results in a material abundance in which degeneration sets in. But this time there is something more. People can point to parallels with ancient civilisations and their decline and these parallels certainly exist. Some of them I mentioned earlier. But the spiritual darkness is greater now. We rose higher in a material sense and and have fallen more spiritually. This is a time of gathering in of souls. A final testing to see which ones have truth in them in a time of lies and which ones stick with the lies for personal advantage or ease or laziness or spiritual rottenness. It is a time of judgement. It is not just we who are being judged but we are being tested to see if we ourselves can judge with righteous judgement,  judge between good and evil and between spiritual good and material well-being.

We now live in a world of lies, one that has got progressively worse over the last 100 years with each generation seeking greater material self-satisfaction and rejecting the wisdom of its ancestors. But we cannot blame the world if we succumb to it. We all have spiritual truth within us if we will listen to it but then we have to close down the greedy little self that always wants feeding. That self is not killed but lifted up beyond itself by love of the real good, beautiful and true which ultimately only have any meaning when centred in God. Today the battle lines are being clearly marked out and there is no discussion to be had with those who reject God.

I have labelled this piece a polemic and so it is with the excesses and one-sidedness of all polemical writing. But it is also, in my opinion, the simple truth.

We are in a Spiritual War

It is obvious that we live in very dangerous times. Clearly, I am not referring to Covid-19 which I assume all readers of this blog realise is just a more or less conventional virus that is being used as a means to an end, that end being control and dominance. The virus is really the least of our worries. It will kill off some elderly people just as flu and pneumonia regularly do but it will not do much harm to the great majority. By all means, we should protect the vulnerable but it should be apparent to anyone by now who bothers to look beyond the official propaganda that our reaction has been totally disproportionate to the threat. Whether that is because of fear and panic or politicians, administrators and other figures of the establishment wanting to hold onto power or even something deliberate and planned is another matter. Whatever the cause of it all, the reality is that we have been deceived into giving up freedom.

The real danger is spiritual and this, I fear, is only the beginning. The groundwork has been carefully laid over the last few decades, centuries even. We have been gradually led away from the knowledge that our life is centred in God to a worldview which is totally materialistic and atheistic. This to the extent that even many people who think they are spiritual or religious still adapt most of their thinking to the materialistic ethos. I am not always exempt from this myself. It's the water in which we swim and it can be difficult to throw it off completely. But look at Christ and the prophets of old. They did not compromise with the worldly powers and worldly wisdom one iota. They grounded themselves totally in spiritual knowledge without any concession to the world. We too must do this. There can be no compromise with lies, even lies plausibly dressed up to look like partial truths. Why bother with partial truths when you have the truth? They are usually just means to smuggle in the lie anyway.

I say the danger is spiritual. What I mean by this is that we will be asked to give up more and more of our personal integrity. Our right to believe what we wish to believe, do what want to do, independent of any external authority. We will be made, through fear, desire for favour or money, to adopt a certain way of being. Many people are rightly concerned about the possibility of being obliged to accept a vaccination if they wish to lead a normal life. If this ever really does come about we will know that a line has been crossed and that freedom really has been lost. At the moment, that does seem to be the way things are heading but the more people who are alert to the dangers of spiritual slavery, the more difficult it will be for the powers that be to enforce their evil agenda. I use that word because that is what it is. Evil is that which seeks to control and dominate for its own benefit. It seeks to deny free will. It seeks to enslave. Evil is a spiritual reality that the modern world does not recognise but that just means that ordinary individuals, never mind the corrupt egotists and degenerate psychopaths who rule us, are more susceptible to it.

Jesus said when speaking about the End Times that, "except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved". This sounds grim. It implies that evil will grow so powerful in its scope that resistance becomes well-nigh impossible. But then he went on to say that, "for the elect's sake, those days shall be shortened".  So we must be prepared for things to get very bad but, at the same time, know that the eventual outcome is not in doubt. For those who remain steadfast and centred in God, victory is assured. This is spiritual victory, not necessarily to be known in this world, as it wasn't for Jesus himself, but it will be real and lasting victory.

The two qualities most important right now are courage and honesty. I am assuming a spiritual orientation. If you don't have, or don't soon acquire, that you will be completely at the mercy of the worldly powers. But even with a spiritual orientation you must have the courage to confront the evil that is being more clearly revealed with every week that passes. And you must be honest because in a world of lies all that can save us is the truth. These two qualities, it will be remarked, are those of the martyr and it seems very probable that in the days to come we will all be examined to see what stuff we are made of.  This should not be a frightening thought. It is actually a privilege to be alive at such a time. We are called to be soldiers in God's army. This army has to fight but it is a spiritual fight and the weapons must be the spiritual weapons of love and truth. However, don't be deceived by how the enemy has tried to disarm that first weapon by reducing it from something brave, bold and fiery to a bland universal acceptance of everything, good or bad, on its own terms. The highest love is the love of the good, the beautiful and the true, and this love will not stand by when these things are attacked.

The Contemporary Assault on the Soul

I don't think assault is too strong a word when what we are witnessing now is the attempt to expunge any notion of a spiritual component to the human being at all, one which will lead, if followed through to its natural conclusion, to the complete separation of earthly man and the spiritual realm to disastrous effect. There may still remain something called religion or spirituality but it won't be that at all.

It is now evident that the only way to preserve a real spiritual integrity in the world today is to reject modern ideology in toto. If you allow its tenets to enter your mind in any form they will act like a cancer and spread throughout your whole system. Any concession will eventually bring about submission to the idea that humanism (see previous post) overrides the reality of God. This is why such things as feminism, anti-racism and all the other -isms are pushed so relentlessly nowadays with the pushing becoming harder and harder and resistance increasingly depicted as sinful. The whole of modern thought is fundamentally an attack on God and if this wasn't always apparent, it surely must be now.

Just as people are currently being pressed into faceless, dehumanising, anonymity-creating, bureaucracy-conforming wearing of  masks in an increasing number of situations under the guise of protecting yourself and (even more insidiously manipulative) protecting others, so many modern attitudes are presented as advances in terms of fairness, tolerance and compassion. Who would want to hold out against such things? But in the same way that mask wearing creates a culture of suspicion, distrust and fear and subtly modifies human behaviour and psychology in all sorts of adverse ways so these modern attitudes corrupt our minds on a spiritual level. By focusing on the purely human, using that word to refer solely to human beings materialistically considered, they cut us off from deeper spiritual truths. Which is, of course, the real intention.

We can tell this by the fact that the process never stops. What seemed innocent enough at first, just the righting of a few historic wrongs, has gathered pace inexorably with more and more truths rooted in the reality of God and Christ either rejected completely or else reformatted to be something quite different. The demands constantly increase and become more extreme. At the same time, what is normal and natural is reinterpreted and shifted to the left, using that word to mean anti-spiritual which is fundamentally what it does mean and has done since at least the French Revolution, on a near weekly basis though there are periods of lull and consolidation and others of strong forward activity. The method employed is constant attack. This is not how truth proceeds. Truth does not attack. It simply presents itself. Evil attacks but good just is itself. This is how we can know, even if it wasn't already quite clear, that the motivation behind the contemporary assault on the mind is evil.

Leftism is driven by hate. Ultimately it is hatred of God but there are many other lesser objects of its hatred which are usually figures it wants to drag down because of envy and resentment. Eventually when it runs out of things to tear down it starts to hate itself which is why we say that the revolution ends up eating itself*. Hatred needs something to feed on and when it has consumed its enemies it cannot simply stop and rest. It must continue with new enemies.

As the left becomes more extreme a number of well-meaning people on the right mount rearguard actions. But unless they speak from a real religious point of view they will fail just as they have over the last few decades. The unholy passion of their opponents is too intense. When all is said and done, the choice is God with all that implies or not God. If you have not chosen God you will fall to the zealots and absorb some of their attitude. The division between those faithful to spiritual truth and the rest will only widen in the coming years. Make sure you are not pulled away from truth by the need to fit in or desire to seem reasonable. Sometimes if the devil doesn't get souls through hatred he can get them through moral ambivalence or vacillation or even, as the saying has it, good intentions. He offers poisoned sweets in the form of seemingly fair or, on the surface, reasonable opinions and attitudes that, if consumed, will end up separating an individual from the truth of Christ. The time is coming when anything that is not actively for Christ will be against him.

* As a matter of interest, this observation goes back to the journalist and pamphleteer Jacques Mallet du Pan who wrote in 1793 that "like Saturn, the revolution devours its own children."

Reclaiming the Rainbow

One bonus of the current coronavirus scare is that some of the self-indulgences of political correctness appear to have taken a back seat for the moment. Only some, others are too well-entrenched to be uprooted so easily and new ones are being formed, but nonetheless when life is boiled down to its basics some of the froth can be skimmed off. With that in mind, perhaps now would be a good time to restore an ancient symbol to its proper place.

The rainbow was one of humanity's most cherished images, a sign of beauty, hope and God's love for humanity. With its panoply of colour and graceful arc, it was a piece of perfection brought down to Earth, a glimpse of heavenly glory.

No more. The image has been corrupted, deliberately so. Now it is a tarnished thing, dragged down into the world of politics and aberrant sexuality. There is nothing Satan delights in so much as the perversion of goodness, beauty and truth. He doesn't want to destroy it. He wants to sully it and make the pure impure. He wants to turn it against itself as part of his futile attempt to prove to himself that he is equal to God. He can only do this with the participation of human beings eager to be corrupted because of their own degraded nature. Such people hate the good because it shows up their own iniquity. What they hate, they want to tarnish which is why they adopt symbols such as the rainbow to their cause and seek to turn them to their ends.

This post is not attacking homosexuals. They are born bearing a cross (as we all are to differing degrees and in different ways) and should be supported. But supported in the right way which means guided to truth, shown love with love expressed in spiritual ways not ways that cater to and reinforce the fallen earthly self and thereby confirm it in its fallenness. Sympathy to people struggling with difficulties is absolutely the right attitude of any civilised person but sympathy should not mean total acceptance of what is contrary to divine truth. Now the pendulum has swung so far that anyone showing reservations about homosexual behaviour is stigmatised as a bigot when all they are really doing is seeking to uphold truth and the natural order of creation. My criticisms are not directed towards homosexuals as such but to those who seek to legitimise and even celebrate the misdirection of the creative energy which is a sacred thing. I criticise the profanation of the sacred.

The rainbow is not a symbol of diversity or equality and it cannot be for the reason that these are not real things, not things rooted in God's reality. (Diversity in the modern sense is not multiplicity.) The peculiar nature of a symbol is that it is a formal representation of an archetypal truth. In the case of a rainbow, of hope and beauty. You cannot have symbols of non-existents nor can you co-opt existing symbols to provide justification for artificial inventions. A symbol is actually a manifestation of an inner reality and that is why it provides a conduit to that reality. Stealing a symbol to acquire its spiritual benefits is a moral crime which not only fosters a lie but damages the symbol's ability to feed the true imagination.

Will, Imagination and Evil

I was castigated recently for going on too much about evil on this blog. I take the point but I would counter that we are living in a particularly evil time. In some respects, the worst ever since evil is essentially the denial of God in whom all good is centred and from whom all good arises. Today we have moved beyond the spiritual negligence of the 20th century into the active rejection of not only God but his created order as well.

People usually point to Hitler as the embodiment of evil in the modern age but I would maintain that, spiritually speaking, there are people as evil as him living now who outwardly might appear exemplary citizens. If you find this statement shocking let me point out that evil is not just measured by the bad things you may do. It is measured by your approach to reality. Reality is God. So when I use the word evil, I don't simply mean bad in the conventional anti-human sense. I refer to an attitude to life, an attitude towards the Creator. The anti-God sense. An evil attitude sets itself against real goodness and truth which are necessarily spiritual. They must be. If there is no spiritual truth then nothing has intrinsic reality and good and evil are meaningless terms.

The 20th century had Communism and Nazism which were obvious evils and had to be fought. But in the 21st century the dark powers have changed their tactics and evil takes a softer, subtler form, disguising itself as good but just as spiritually pernicious, probably more so as the soul embraces this spiritual evil willingly in the belief that it is being virtuous. This would not happen if the soul were rightly oriented and less fixated on itself and its lower nature to the detriment of God and its higher reality. But it does happen because the soul gives itself to a false good, a good based on its own fallen desires.

The false good is the religion of humanity in which natural and spiritual differences are denied, the higher brought down to the level of the lower and the fact of spiritual evil as a real thing dismissed as a prejudice of the ignorant, to believe in which is actually hateful. This false good also creates for itself a false evil which is anything in which the religion of humanity, together with its central pillar of egalitarianism or oneness, is denied. What the religion of humanity ignores is that being human in the full sense requires seeking the truth of one's being in what is beyond the merely human. If this aspiration or vision of humanity is not allowed then what happens is this. Instead of rising above the human, one falls below it. Humanity, in this sense, is a staging post not a destination which is not to lessen it but to see it in its proper context of spiritual transformation. It seems to be inevitable that if a human being does not seek to transcend himself he will fall into a lower than human state. Not animal which is a worthy, natural state but sub-human. Many of the demons belong to this category.

From a spiritual perspective, the most important human faculties are the will and the imagination. In modern man, both of these have been corrupted. The will is no longer oriented to God as it is in a spiritually healthy human being. It points towards self. And the imagination has been crippled by materialism with the result that the images that feed it are not based on symbols of the divine but, increasingly, those that derive from the infernal regions. Look at so much of modern art, music, film and general culture. Isn't it obvious where this comes from? Imagination now is not called to higher levels of being but spiritual debasement.

The modern age has been marked by the desire to liberate the human will from its 'enslavement' to God, rejected (irrationally) as irrational. What lies behind this supposed search for freedom is actually egotism with truth bent to suit the agenda of the autonomous ego. What results is not freedom but increased enslavement to the restrictions of matter. There is no freedom in matter. Without spirit there is only darkness and death. The human imagination has fallen into darkness and can only rise out of that when it opens itself up to transcendent reality. Re-polarise your will to the truth of God and allow your imagination to receive spiritual light.

Britain and the EU

Esau sold his birthright for a mess of pottage. We are told that if we leave the EU we will lose many advantages such as open borders, the single market, cooperation on security and medicine, freedom of movement, peace etc, and descend into rabid nationalism. This shows how little the highly-educated elite understand of real life, the deeper life in which man does not live by bread (or pottage) alone.

It is said that more intelligent people support the remain option. They are not more intelligent as real intelligence is measured. They are just more brainwashed by the modern education system (the longer you stay in it, the more it gets you), more indoctrinated by theory and ideology and more attached to the post-modern world in which there is no meaning and all value is measured by economics, pleasure or material convenience. They are more sophisticated perhaps, but less in tune with blood and earth and soul, true things. This is because a higher IQ level often results in lower instinctive understanding as culture replaces nature, making such people more prone to the idealistic foolishness that will destroy them. This is not an argument in favour of ignorance and stupidity but of the arid nature of rational intelligence unsupported by spiritual intuition.

The EU wants to be an empire, a European empire on a par with Russia or China or the USA. However, it has no roots in anything traditionally European which means Christian. It is more like an attempt to recreate the Napoleonic empire that actually was a disruption of the true European ideal in that it was based on a materialistic conception of human beings. The EU observes the same principle, the principle that the true end of man lies in this world and that his individuality must be subsumed in an overall collectivism, one based on inclusivity rather than quality. Individuality is theoretically encouraged but only within the limiting framework of an agreed set of restrictions.

I am against the EU because it means more government, more control, more bureaucracy, more domination by unaccountable elites, more centralisation, more secrecy. It means less freedom, less individuality, less honesty, less humanity. It means succumbing to the technocrats and proud rationalists who inhabit a world of ideology and abstract theory that has very little connection to the flesh and blood reality of human needs and desires, indeed human nature itself, let alone spiritual truths. The European Union is and always has been an organisation that is intended to override national sovereignty and eventually sink all the countries which form it into a supranational body run by an elite who see themselves as accountable to no one except themselves. This is the ideology of the cold intellectual who denies all natural human instincts in the name of his frigid theories.

The EU is a modern Tower of Babel, an attempt to build a utopia without reference to the transcendent, but if you try to build a single structure of that size from such disparate elements as countries with hundreds of years of their own traditions it will fragment because there is no inner connection to the centre. Everything must have a centre. What is the centre of the EU? There is none. People point to the ideal of a body that enables cooperation and prevents local wars but nobody loves the EU, however convenient they may find it, and in practice it is just a federal superstate run by a technocratic elite, a liberal organisation that seeks to impose liberal dogma and stifle real freedom in the name of an atheistic humanism which, by definition, is fundamentally nihilistic.

So it is necessary that Britain leaves the EU if it is to regain its soul. However, merely to leave and carry on in the same materialistic way is just swapping one evil for another. Leaving is only the first step on a long road, a necessary but not sufficient condition for Britain to shake off its spiritual torpor. As things stand I do not feel that Brexit will change anything serious. The populace is too addicted to money and pleasure, the culture is too corrupting and the politicians are mostly snake oil salesmen though admittedly it is democracy that makes that inevitable. But this is not a defeatist attitude because I believe that individuals can wake up. All institutions are corrupt and no help will come from any of them but now is the time for truth to be pursued inwardly by those who are serious about what it is to be a human being. That is the question we must all seek to answer. What is a human being? Anyone reading this must ask themselves that question. If you don't you are failing in the purpose of your life. The answer can be found but only by those who really want to know it and will not rest content with palliatives.

Britain must leave the EU in order to avoid being swallowed up by a system that is being used to crush its spiritual growth. But once that is done a greater decision must be taken. Will we just pursue material goals, amusement and diversion as before? Or will we ask ourselves serious questions about our purpose and destiny? Will we accept responsibility for our souls or simply fritter our lives away with entertainment or in the search for unrealisable political utopias? The question as to purpose must be asked by each individual. It cannot be a collective thing but the more individuals who do ask it, the more likelihood there is of the country as a whole breaking out of its spiritual paralysis.

The upcoming General Election in the UK is largely a distraction. I don't say the outcome makes no difference but it is unlikely to make much real difference which is why I regard the act of voting in the modern world as simply perpetuating the current rotten system. There are those who don't vote because they can't be bothered and that is a negative act. But then there are those who will not vote because they see this as making them complicit in playing a game in which two sides are set against each other in order that the battle between the two may distract one from seeing that the truth is in neither. Each has little bits of truth though I am not saying that one is as bad as the other. It's usually obvious that one is worse but that fact constantly lures people into making a choice, even if it is a reluctant one. However, all such people do is allow the game to continue. I am not calling for revolution or anything absurd like that (absurd because outer revolution without inner transformation just means more of the same once things have settled down) but the realisation that life is spiritual not political. This realisation would not solve all problems overnight but it would put us on the proper footing. At the moment, all political parties see life in materialistic terms so they are all effectively saying the same thing, just in different ways. It's as though they are arguing about which base camp is best but no one actually wants to start to climb.

Naturally, I am aware of all the arguments in favour of voting, that it is better to choose the least bad option, that not voting is a dereliction of duty, that the advantages of a democratic society are such that its drawbacks should be overlooked, that it is better than the alternative. All these are reasonable arguments and I have inclined towards them myself at various times in the past. They are hard to dismiss. Nevertheless, I now believe that the situation is such that they no longer apply and they just allow a bad situation to continue and, in fact, to get worse. And so I now reject them. Some things can be mended but others are so far gone that repair is no longer possible.

Satanists

This is a post the premise of which some readers may think excessive. I hope not because there's a serious point to be made here.

It has occurred to me recently that many people today are actually satanists. I put the word with a small 's' because these people are not actively practising, fully aware of what they are doing, Satanists but satanists by default in that they allow themselves to go along with the deviant madness of today's world. They don't find it important enough to stand up against and so they are part of it and will easily be drawn into the next stage because, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, there will be a next stage. There always is.

If we are in a spiritual war, and we are, then there are sides. The sides are becoming more and more clearly delineated, and neutrality is increasingly not an option. There is no Switzerland in spiritual warfare. Jesus' words that " If you are not for me then you are against me" are taking on greater significance in our time and they apply to everyone. Perhaps especially they apply to church hierarchies, many of which seem to have an inverted scale of priorities with this world at the top and God somewhere below. But if God is not at the top then he's not anywhere.

Some people like to say that spirituality is a much broader term now than it was so anything that works for human progress is spirituality. The word covers all sorts of potential advancements. So climate change activism is spirituality, wanting countries to sink their differences into an over-arching unity is spirituality, promoting equality in all areas of life is spirituality, seeking to extend human life for as long as possible is spirituality, even computer technology is a sort of spirituality as it brings people together, overcomes barriers and spreads knowledge. All this is progress and that's spirituality.

This is nonsense. All this is 100% materialistic because it is all focussed on the earthly human being and seeks to advance him in his current state which it aims to expand or improve or change in some way for the supposed better. This has nothing to do with spirituality. Spirituality sees the earthly human being as fallen and separated from God. A sinner, however much you improve him. The only thing that is truly spiritual is the search for God and the attempt to transform the earthly self through repentance and self-purification with the idea of rendering the soul worthy, once stripped of ego, the ego that always wants progress, to receive grace from God.

A lot of things apparently leading to progress (in the worldly sense) may not seem evil in themselves but actually lay the groundwork for evil to build on. If we are rightly orientated to God we can perceive this, but if we ignore God we may well miss it.

The world is becoming ever more separated from truth and there will soon be only two options. God or the devil. Spiritual transformation or earthly progress. Previously there was a third which was the natural way, neither good nor evil but not spiritually unhealthy. Not positive, not negative, just ordinary. This option is being removed from us and we will have to make a choice. God or the devil. I know people who see themselves as good people, on the side of justice and what is right, but almost every moral decision they make (and they think themselves highly moral) is against God and for extension of the degree of separation between the world and God, between human beings and God. They are satanists but they have no idea of that and would scoff if told. You don't have to be actively evil to be on the side of evil.

In war you have to know what you are fighting for and who your enemies are. We have been told to love our enemies and we must never forget this, but that does not mean we don't recognise them for what they are.

I'm A Spiritual Person

Doesn't it make your toes curl slightly to hear someone say this?  I read it in a magazine recently, as spoken by an actress, and wanted to reply, no, you're not. You just have a vague idea of how wonderful it would be if everything was love and bliss and peace and we were all nice to each other as though we lived in a yoga retreat on a tropical island. You think materialism is crude and competitive, and you disapprove of argument and violence. We should all love each other and the world would be a better place.

I exaggerate to make a point but you get my drift. To call yourself a spiritual person is intended to show that you care and are not greedy but someone who is concerned for others and the environment because everything is one.  You are a good person, someone who sees beyond the selfishness of ordinary mortals. But what is this so-called spirituality? Does it include the fear of God which is the beginning of wisdom or does it see that as an insult to love? Does your spirituality mean you recognise yourself to be a fallen soul in need of salvation or do you see the mere acceptance of the idea of the spiritual enough to make you a spiritual person?

It's not what you believe that makes you spiritual. In fact, the only really spiritual people are the saints and they would never call themselves spiritual. They know that they of themselves are nothing and any good in them comes from God. This is the opposite attitude to the modern "spiritual person" who is happy to dub him or herself thus simply because he or she believes in some kind of undefined spiritual something or other beyond this world. You might think I am being over-critical here but I am trying to expose the falseness of much modern-day spirituality which wants to have its worldly cake but with a spiritual icing on top. If you do not reject the world you are not a spiritual person, and if you really are a spiritual person you would not dream of describing yourself as such because what you are effectively doing is saying I don't need God, I can do it on my own. My spirituality comes from me. This is the opposite to the truth.

I'm sure a lot of this comes down to naivety and ignorance because we have virtually no proper spiritual education these days and the field is wide open to charlatans with books to sell. Nevertheless it is important to make clear that what the world needs now is not spirituality but proper spirituality which is spirituality grounded in a proper understanding of God. Unfocused spirituality can be exploited in just the same way good intentions can be. Remind me where they lead.

There is No Rational Basis for Equality

If you believe in God and think that God exists in everyone, you must also see that not everyone reflects the reality of what God is to the same degree. For all people may be manifestations of God but clearly none are perfect manifestations which means there are greater and lesser manifestations.

If you don't believe in God but think that we all have some kind of universal spiritual component within us then you must still accept that our awareness and understanding of it differs hugely. As does our ability to express it.

And if you are a materialist then you believe that nothing has real meaning or value anyway (unless artificially invented by us) so equality is a redundant concept. It's merely an ideological abstraction, an aspiration without real substance. If a materialist wants to say that we all have equal value then that value, according to his scheme of things, is precisely nothing. We are all equal, but equally worthless.

Equality as a real thing rather than a vague abstraction is only possible in something like an ant colony. It would demand the complete abolition of individuality.

It is a materialistic perversion of a spiritual truth, namely that God does exist in every human being who, by virtue of that fact, all have the potential to awaken spiritually and become godlike themselves. But we are all at very different stages of that journey and some will never reach the destination. Moreover, even when the destination is reached, we will not be equal because we all express our spiritual realisation in individual ways.

Equality is a one-dimensional view of the world which collapses reality to the horizontal, the material level, ignoring the vertical axis of soul. The very concept should be rejected and replaced with ideas of justice and fairness where these are appropriate. That is because to keep equality in any form whatsoever inevitably reinforces the notion of equality pure and simple as an absolute.

How did this absurd idea ever come about when it is so contrary to reason? One can only assume that it is a misconception of Christian teaching, basing itself on the idea that all human beings have the divine within them and, in that sense, all have value and the same divine potential. But to go from that to a belief in equality here and now in this mortal world is an utter non sequitur. As my teachers said, "men are by no means equal on the earth plane".

Proponents of the idea perhaps think that without it the door is open for exploitation of the weak by the strong, but that is akin to saying that the idea may be false but it can have good results or that the means justify the ends which is an axiom any schoolchild should know to be false since a cause and its effect cannot be separated. There are other ways of preventing the abuse of a truth than by propagating a lie. Besides, this exploitation would only occur when the belief in human inequality was interpreted materialistically, that is to say, without the corresponding belief in God. The problem is not inequality but inequality seen through the lens of atheism or false spiritual beliefs which are grounded in worldly interpretations of spirituality. In all cases, the solution is a correct spiritual understanding that sees the presence of God in all human beings, but that presence existing as a potential that needs to be developed.

Equality is actually destructive to the understanding of God because, by limiting everything to the same level, it destroys a proper sense of hierarchy and transcendence. That means that God is reduced in majesty and mystery. In fact, ultimately, if you believe in equality you will eventually believe yourself to be equal to God. And that means you won't believe in God. But without God, as we can see quite clearly now, there is only nihilism and despair, kept at bay by the need for constant entertainment whether that be of the popular variety or the intellectual. Equality, far from being a spiritual belief, as it is often conceived of nowadays, is actually the product of a pure anti-spiritual materialism.

Once again we see that when humanity abandons belief in a transcendent reality it loses itself in invented substitutions that lead it ever further into illusion. And the end result of living in illusion is always spiritual disaster. This all stems from the replacement of true religion with the worship by humanity of itself and the failure to understand that if humanity does not look beyond itself for its true fulfilment it will quickly sink into something less than itself. Egalitarianism is actually all about the promotion of quantity to a universal good and the concomitant destruction of quality.

There is more on this subject in a previous post here.

Crucifixion

Human beings have abandoned spiritual/intuitive and natural/instinctive ways of thinking and fallen into what they believe to be rational, logical ways, but reason and logic as based on materialism (which is irrational but never mind). That is why such things as homosexuality, feminism and now transgenderism are not just accepted but actively promoted these days.

There can be no meeting between the two ways, spiritual and material, or people who perceive the world according to them. Each group has a different idea of what is good and what is bad, what is true and what is false, and the differences between them are fundamental in the most literal sense.

Given that the materialists are wrong (and they are; crudely put, can a conscious mind really come from a pile of rubble?), we have to ask why. Are they well-meaning but mistaken or is there something actually wrong with them?

As I know many ordinary people who are materialists, including in my own family, it's hard to say this but the only answer I can honestly come up with is, yes. There is something wrong with them. For the truth of God really is within us. It's usually in an undeveloped form, which is why there are primitive religions that are full of ignorance, and it does need cultivating and nourishing to become truly known. Nonetheless, all human beings are made in God's image and we do have that image as a living reality imprinted on our hearts.

I used to think that there were bad people and spiritually weak people who just went with the flow. However, the fact is that, while there certainly are actively bad people and others who do just passively follow the zeitgeist, and there is, of course, a qualitative difference between them, "He who is not with me is against me." If the truth is in you, then you will see the truth. You can't help it. If it is not positively in you then it must be asked, why is it not? Given that God is in all of us, it can only be because you have suppressed the knowledge of God for your own egotistical ends. And then the difference between active evil and passive acquiescence to it is not so large.

Jesus the man was crucified at Golgotha 2,000 years ago but he rose from the dead three days later. Jesus the divine image is crucified in our hearts every day today. Whether he rises from that crucifixion or not is up to us.

Sleepwalking to Emptiness

When I look around me it seems that most people in the Western world are completely oblivious to any kind of deeper reality. They don't appear to think very seriously about who or what they are but carry on with their lives as though appearance were reality, absorbed in their usually unimportant work and petty distractions as though these actually meant something.

What an arrogant attitude! How dare I be so dismissive of hard-working people, struggling to make ends meet and fit in a few moments of relaxation and leisure whenever they can.

Perhaps, and I certainly am not dismissing anyone since everything in our contemporary society conspires to obscure truth. Nevertheless, how anyone can live in this world without making huge mental efforts to try to work out what it is and what it means and what they should be doing to live life in a way that corresponds to reality is an enigma. The problem of existence is not solved by evading it, and if it is lack of interest that prompts the refusal to look at what this world and our life mean, that is even worse. So many people really seem to think that it is an intellectual luxury to try to penetrate the mystery of life or else they all too readily assume that there is no mystery and that life is what it appears to be, a meaningless accident which must just be made the most of. They seem to have little or no intellectual or spiritual curiosity, especially not in a way that would actually be applicable to their lives and open up something more than the fulfilment of ephemeral desires whether to do with mind or body. And, as far as I can see, this is as true of the intelligentsia as it is of ordinary people.

Most people in the modern West are relatively comfortable, certainly by historical standards. But this might just be blinding us to reality. It's a shield that protects us from the chilly blasts of existence and prevents us from seeking greater meaning. We are lulled into sleep by what technology has come up with to make the physical aspect of life easier and more pleasant.  We hardly ever step out of the everyday world, or the image that has been created of the everyday world, and ask ourselves, just what is this and what should I be doing to make real sense of it?

Whether through laziness or lack of imagination or shallowness or some other form of willful negligence, so many people today are allowing themselves to be shepherded along to a state of great spiritual damage. This world only meets its proper purpose when seen as a place in which human beings make the conscious decision to invite God into their hearts. If they ignore that purpose, it will be to their long-term loss. What could possibly cause a creature made in God's image either to deny what it is or, in some respects even worse, just pay no attention to what it is? It can only be because it is sunk into self-absorption to the extent that it mistakes the outermost components of its being for its true self, not bothering to look more deeply into itself.

I'm sure that no one reading this falls into the category I have just described. If they did, why would they be wasting their time here? But how many people have genuine spiritual concerns, in that these are the most important thing in their lives? And if you are a believer but spiritual concerns are not the most important thing in your life, what kind of believer are you? Your belief must be lukewarm at best.

The time is coming when our heart will be judged. Have we used our life in this mortal world to try to gain a greater understanding of God and put ourselves right with him? Or have we wasted our life by neglecting spiritual things? It might seem strange to say that a life without spirituality is a wasted life, but so it is. You may be the most successful person with wealth, fame and all the rest of it. You may be an acclaimed artist or scientist of renown but if you have not attended to spiritual matters, you have wasted your life and are sleepwalking to emptiness.

Note: This is one of my more polemical pieces which probably sounds a little intemperate in tone but that's because it's becoming increasingly apparent that the hour is getting late, or so it seems to me.
