In a comment on a post on equality Bruce Charlton suggested I should draw together some of my writings on the subject to be the basis of a book. It seemed a good idea so I have started to do just that. The book will be called By No Means Equal and will use some of the relevant posts on this blog as a rough skeleton which is then fleshed out and to which I will add new thoughts, some directly pertinent, some peripherally so to make it more interesting (I hope) and less one-dimensional as banging on about a single theme with no let up might be. But the thread of equality and how that notion impacts us will be woven throughout as an underlying background.
Actually, the equality myth pervades and contaminates almost everything these days so the range can be quite wide. It also gives one a chance to go right back and look at first principles from a metaphysical perspective and even to consider the nature of God. Then there is the opportunity to see how this idea impacts on the end times scenario. So, quite a lot to work with.
The book will be similar in construction and focus to Remember the Creator and Earth is a School and, like them, takes the Master's words for its title. In that respect it could be considered as the third part of a trilogy.
Added note - see comment below.
Potential cover images showing Jacob's ladder on the facade of Bath Abbey.
@William - Good, I'm glad you are doing this, despite the dodgy provenance of the suggestion.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bruce. Yes, I'm afraid you are directly responsible.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea for a book, William, but may I please try to discourage you from using a common figure of speech as a title? "By No Means Equal" is just inherently incapable of being memorable. Whereas "Remember the Creator" was a great title, fresh yet getting right to the point, a point I've never heard anyone say that way. Can you boil down your main point about Equality to a similarly straightforward phrase that highlights what's not commonplace about it?
ReplyDeleteI'll think about that but the reason for the title is that it's something the Masters said to me like the titles of my two previous books. I think it's quite pithy and to the point.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the book. Here's a suggested emendation: By No Means Equal, But By All Means Envious. Envy is the child of Satanic pride and equality is its grandchild.
ReplyDeleteThanks, that may be a bit long for the spine of a book though! I do actually mention that the desire for equality invariably comes from those motivated by envy and resentment and that it goes right back to the Garden of Eden when the serpent encouraged human beings to seek to be equal to God and probably Eve to seek to be the equal of Adam.
ReplyDeleteIf you are taking suggestions I had the thought arrive of a Biblical reference for your book:
ReplyDeleteThe Ladder of God
The Heavenly hierarchy Jacob saw in his dream of the ladder first shows 'angels of God descending and ascending on it', then '... behold, the Lord stood above it', who says:
"And, behold, I am with thee..."
Genesis 28
That's a good title but I'm not sure if it describes what the book is really going to be about.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, though, I had been thinking about a cover and one of the things I was considering was the facade of Bath Abbey which is Jacob's ladder. I don't know how to put the images in a comment so I'll stick them at the bottom of the post so you can see what I mean. I fear it may be too fussy for a cover but I do like the idea of it.
Looking forward to it! It really is an unique pleasure reading your publications.
ReplyDelete"Envy and Resentment" is a great theme, in an age when we have entire college majors devoted to teaching the virtues of envy and resentment. In reality, of course, they're still sins.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a beautiful cover, and the first photo is indeed beautiful. If you want a close-up of the ladder, the second photo isn't good enough; it's tilted and the top is cut off badly. But I like the idea.
Thanks David. Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteAgree about the picture. That was just to give an idea of the image.
Good picture for the front. The ladder could be cropped and put on the spine of the book.
ReplyDeleteSomething like this could go on the back:

Imagine opening it up just to look at the covers. It would be Bath Abbey to Ladder to Surreal image; and vice versa, whether reading left to right or right to left - denoting physical to ladder to spirit; or from spirit to ladder to physical structure.
I noticed Bath Abbey changed the lighting to electric in 1979. Did you ever go before that change and see the quality of the light?
ReplyDeleteStandard modern electrical power is clearly an energy drain.
Civilization was more civilized when there were lamp lighters, with cast iron streetlights lit with oil or gas.
Such lighting is more tolerable to the Aetherically sensitive individual, who is otherwise under a state of disruption in rank modernity.
The ideal is a restoring and recharging of the Prana in the Aether. Such a project would re-create ambient energy that could be used for lighting and magic using copper and crystal rods similar to those wielded by the Ancient Egyptians.
Without a Transformation of Power there can be no real progress, especially not of the type that unifies the spiritual with our material realm. To do so will require a Re-activation of the Pyramidal Power Array on Earth.
I actually lived in Bath in 1979 but don't remember the lighting.
ReplyDeleteI certainly agree with you about modern electric lighting and the whole way we access and use energy. I do not think we can collectively make any real spiritual progress while we live like this. When I lived in India and there were frequent power cuts it was very noticeable how one's sensitivity increased with candles, cooking on a fire and so on. But of course who could go back to that? It's not really feasible any more
